No ID? Here’s What You Can Do

If the signer does not have a valid, government issued photo ID it is possible to use “Credible Witnesses”

Credible Witnesses are two people who are not related to the signer who have known the signer and can affirm under oath that the signer hold the identity they claim. These witnesses must be unrelated and not benefit from the document being signed or be named in the document. Friends, neighbors, etc. are typically fine as long as they have proper photo ID.

The Credible Witnesses ID will be recorded in the notary public’s journal. Should the document ever be contested, credible witnesses may be required to appear before a court.

If the signer cannot be identified by valid government photo ID or Credible Witnesses, the notary will not be able to complete the notarization and the travel fee will be due. Please call us at 423-708-5662 if you have any questions.
